Hey Fam, 🐻

Happy Black History Month! I hope you’ve been able to take care of yourself these past couple weeks. The fact that you take time to read, reflect, and check in with me means so much. Truly.

I’m sending this week’s journal from the Bahamas, which sounds way more peaceful than my inner voice has been at times. Seriously though, I’m very grateful to be here. Stepping away from my normal routine has made it easier to notice my thoughts, what really brings me joy and the habits I want to change or keep when I get home. Turns out, paradise is a pretty good place to observe your patterns. Needless to say, I will be journaling a lot this week.

One habit I am really focusing on is not waking up and going on my phone. My focus is noticing how I feel when I go on my phone right away vs. when I don’t. Anyone else working on this? I’ll let you know what I come up with after I complete my full investigation. Hehe.

Here’s a journal prompt if you need one:
What is something that repeats in my life that I want to reflect on and improve?

I’m excited to share a few more things I’m working on.

But first. How have you been?

Faith and Mindset🙏🏽

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that being aware is its own kind of growth. Just noticing what you do, how you feel and how you react to situations can change how you approach things. Ok, I think I just described my personal definition of self-awareness. We can get so busy that we miss simply paying attention to how we move.

Here’s a verse I’m leaning in to this week:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart.”
- Psalm 139:23

This verse is a reminder for me to pay attention to the habits, thoughts, and emotions that keep showing up and make sure they align with my spirit.

Mental Health Tip: Awareness before Action

This week’s challenge:
Notice your emotional patterns without trying to correct them. Just identify them.

Some Examples:
• Realizing you shut down when you’re overwhelmed
• Noticing defensiveness when you feel misunderstood
• Seeing how exhaustion affects your patience

What do you think of this quote?

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it.” - Marcus Aurelius

Another crazy good book that changed my perspective: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey

Quick summary: Effectiveness shows up in how you listen, respond, and how intentional you are with the people in front of you.
